The most popular Mediterranean islands for the month of August, according to traveller popularity, were announced today by TripAdvisor. We were not entirely surprised to see several of the stops along our sailing routes among the top ten, including Santorini and Mykonos.
July and August are historically the most popular months to sail the Greek isles. While mainland Athens enjoys the height of its tourist season, the islands of Greece will typically offer some respit. Enjoying temperatures 10°-15° F cooler than Athens, islands such as Naxos, Skinoussa and Hydra can provide a more secluded beach vacation without sacrificing the culture, dining, and nightlife of more frequented islands.
Check our prices and availability for July and August 2009 by using our trip planning tool.

Planning an evening of bar hopping after sailing to Mykonos? Chances are that by the time you’ve pulled into the port of Mykonos you are already aware of the hyperbolic reputation that precedes this 41 square mile island located in the Cyclades. The first thing you’ll notice is the enchanting amalgamation of amazing beaches, beautiful people, and gratifying Greek cuisine. When you incorporate the stunning Cycladic Architecture and picturesque Aegean Sea, you have the backdrop for memories that you won’t soon forget. We’ve taken to task the compilation of what we believe comprises the perfect party spots for your day/night/morning in Mykonos. This list is derived from a subjective formula that takes into account the scene, people, location, craziness, and originality of each bar or club.
Tropicana Beach Bar – Paradise Beach
Afternoon (12:00PM – 7:00PM)
You’ll notice that around 4pm the bass begins to create metrical ripples in your mojito as you sit in a beach chair overlooking Paradise Beach. This serves as your admonition of the approaching decadence. The overall scene can most aptly be described as a global spring break party. Whether they are 18 years old or 40, people of all nationalities will be standing at tables partying like they’ll be back to school in a few days.
Mykonos Town – Mykonos, Greece
Pre-Dinner (7:00PM – 11:00PM)
Take a stroll through the winding maze of small alleys checkered in blue and white that comprise Mykonos Town. Have a few drinks in Little Venice to relax and watch the sun sink into the Aegean. Then take a pick of any of the surrounding restaurants and enjoy some fresh feta, Souvlaki, and seafood. After a few beers, some ouzo, and an espresso you’ll be ready to start your evening.
Semeli Bar – Mykonos Town
Post-Dinner (11:00PM – 2:00AM)
The modern interior of this Little Venice bar combines the simple yet effective combination of current dance music and a great crowd (read: a refreshing mix of laid back, fun, and attractive people). While you could mistake the interior for a modish New York or Parisian bar, the outside provides breathtaking views of the remarkable architecture of Little Venice and the colorful houses which create the scenic man-made shoreline.
Scandanavian Bar – Mykonos Town
Late-Night Partying (2:00AM – 4:00AM)
Almost too popular for its own good, this bar/club is almost guaranteed to be packed with sweaty hordes of people. But it still remains one of the best spots in Mykonos to initiate the holiday romance that you imagined when you booked your sailing trip months ago.
Cavo Paradise – Paradise Beach
The Rest of the Night/Morning (4:00AM – 7:00AM)
Show up around 3am, pay 20-30 euros, and you’ll find yourself standing outside partying around a pool and dancing while an international DJ spins the latest in euro dance music. Don’t be surprised if you end up dancing in the pool while fully clothed at 6am.

The Guardian published an article today featuring Greece as one of the Top 10 Sea Kayaking Destinations in Europe.
The Greek islands with their taverna culture are where sea kayaking becomes especially civilised. It is possible to paddle from one island to another, day after day and never have to “rough it”.
We couldn’t agree more, one of the benefits of sailing the Greek Isles with Greek Seas is an open schedule. If you’d like to spend more time on an island to sea kayak, swim, or just lounge on the beach…you can. In addition, your captain can probably recommend a good shop to rent a kayak from and the best spots to paddle to.
Both the Greek Islands mentioned in the article, Santorini and Ios, are included on our Cyclades Islands routes.

Where Was Mamma Mia Filmed?
Filed Under Greek Islands in the News | 69 Comments
Starting July 18th, many a movie-goer will be asking themselves that very question. “Where was Mamma Mia filmed?” And after seeing the sets and backgrounds of the movie, who can blame them?
In the latest Broadway show turned movie, Mamma Mia follows in the footsteps of Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, and Hairspray in transforming a wildly popular on-stage performance into on-screen success.
According to imdb.com, the primary filming locations for Mamma Mia were the islands of Corfu, Skiathos and Skopelos. At Greek Seas, we take pride in giving our customers the opportunity to experience ‘off the beaten path’ islands similar to Skiathos and Skopelos. While several of our routes include vacation favorites such as Mykonos and Santorini, our sailing captains are especially keen to point out less-frequented islands that can offer the secluded beaches, fine dining, and local culture often lost in more popular ports.
Hopefully Corfu, Skiathos and Skopelos will enjoy and benefit from their newly found fame, and Mamma Mia fans will leave the theater encouraged to visit the islands of Greece (with or without the singing and dancing).

Best European Beach Parties
Filed Under Greek Islands in the News | 2 Comments
The Times Online recently ranked PSAROU BEACH, Mykonos as one of the ‘10 Best European Beach Parties’.
Mykonos has been top of the Greek party scene since Jackie Onassis gave it the jet-set stamp of approval in the 1960s – and it’s still as popular now with fashionistas, socialites and clubbers.

While the article suggests flying to Mykonos, all three of our Cyclades Islands Routes take you to Mykonos to enjoy Paradise Beach, Panormos Beach, Psarou Beach and Paraga Beach.
